Privacy Policy — LocalTunnel Chrome Extension

LocalTunnel is a Chrome extension that creates temporary public links for user-owned localhost development servers.

What this extension does

• Detects local development ports on localhost / 127.0.0.1
• Creates temporary tunnel links through the LocalTunnel backend
• Relays user-requested traffic between the public link and local server
• Stores tunnel state/configuration locally in the browser for usability

Data we process

1) Website content (tunneled traffic)

HTTP/WebSocket request and response data may be processed to relay traffic between the public tunnel URL and your local app. This processing is required for the extension's core function.

2) Network metadata (including IP address)

Source IP and request metadata may be processed for abuse prevention, security controls, and rate limiting.

3) Local extension settings (stored in Chrome storage)

Tunnel settings and state (for example: active tunnels, route configuration, reconnect state) are stored locally via Chrome extension storage.

What we do not collect

• We do not collect passwords or financial information for unrelated purposes.
• We do not collect personal communications.
• We do not sell user data.

How data is used

• Provide tunnel creation and relay functionality
• Maintain service reliability and security (including rate limiting and abuse prevention)
• Restore user tunnel configuration/state in the extension

Data sharing

We do not sell personal data. Data is not shared for advertising.

Data retention

• Tunnel sessions are temporary and auto-expire (default 8 hours).
• Operational logs/metadata may be retained for security and troubleshooting for a limited period.

Security

• Token-based tunnel session validation
• Request rate limits and payload limits
• Restricted extension permissions and content security policy

Your choices

• You can stop or pause tunnels at any time.
• You can uninstall the extension at any time.
• You can clear extension storage from Chrome extension settings.
